I really need to start talking to the locals & old timers in the area about some of these places I'm coming across in the county - I would really be interested in learning about the history of the area.

I am starting to get a whole new appreciation.

Taken in my back yard today between chores - the fragrance in the air is incredible!

So, here it is - the new name for my photography business!

Photography business…? If only I could make a full time living at what I love doing the most!

Anyways, I will be slowly changing things around & displaying more of my portrait work, engagements & weddings. Please let me know what you think of what I post – once again I have big shoulders, so give it to me straight!

Looking forward to using these a little more extensively in the next couple of weeks to really see what they are capable of.

I get side tracked so easy!

On my way to a certain location the other evening I couldn't help but stop & have a look around at this place.

Of course I ended up spending to much time & not having enough light to get the images I was hoping for at my original location.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow!

Just off hwy#35 in Minden - this place has been empty ever since I've lived in the Highlands.

It would be a great location for a studio/workshop for Pie's Photography.

If only money grew on trees!

It's not very often I approach this barn from this direction.

With the amount of percipitation we've had lately, I thought I could add a little more to the composition by getting a reflection of the barn in this over sized puddle/pond.

There was a bit to much of a breeze for it to be really effective, but I still liked the over all image - & yes I was standing right in the water to get this shot - brrr.

An image from earlier this spring - I liked how the trees framed this old place blocking out the drab afternoon sky along with the left over snow almost mirroring this shack & roofline.

Dahl Forest Homestead

Dahl Forest Homestead
Originally uploaded by Pie's Photography

Today I was privileged to be “the official photographer” for the donation of a 500 acre parcel of land (The Dahl Forest) to the Haliburton Land Trust – the link - www.haliburtonlandtrust.ca/
What an amazing property!
This property has the Burnt River bisecting it with a swing bridge connecting the two sides. (Pictures still to come of the bridge).
It’s old farm land that was pretty much clear cut back in the late 19th century and has been reforested over the last 50 years by the current owners. There is the old homestead that you see above along with cobblestone ruins scattered through-out.
So much to see and photograph I will be back there this weekend early morning to try and catch some magical light – I can’t wait!

More rock & flower images from the other day.

The tiny flowers in the foreground I believe are called Squirel Corn flowers (Dicentra canadensis) - they belong to the poppy family.

Really tiny & delicate - I need to invest in a macro lense or some extension tubes to serve these flowers the justice they deserve.

I never did make it to the top of this southerly look-out - just to much to see! This area is known to be ahead of the rest of the county & it defiantly showed - the ground was blanketed with a plethora of wildflowers. Got to get back there asap!

I need to sit in one spot & let it come to me.

But that would take some planning, time & patience - 3 things/qualities that are in short suppliy around here.

Parker kept calling the lama & camel doggies(he's only 21 months old) & was terrified of the emu. This bird was my height, standing at about 6'4" & the aggressive way this bird approached us really took him by suprise. Parker decided he was much happier watching from the truck!
